Ritchie Attempt to Muzzle 1st Amendment Rights of Press Fails; Taxpayers Now On the Hook for $224,000

Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Tony Sutton and Deputy Chairman Michael Brodkorb issued the following statements regarding today’s report in the Star Tribune about Democrat Secretary of State Mark Ritchie’s unsuccessful effort to thwart members of the press from gaining media access near polling places. Ritchie’s failure to provide polling place access to members of the media will now cost taxpayers $224,000.

Republican Party of Minnesota: Proposed Absentee Ballot Rule Changes Attempt to "Whitewash" Ritchie`s Failures

Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Tony Sutton and Deputy Chairman Michael Brodkorb today released
a letter from Party legal counsel to Administrative Law Judge Manuel Cervantes regarding Secretary of State Mark Ritchie’s proposed changes to the design of the state’s absentee ballots.  Judge Cervantes will oversee a hearing on the proposed absentee ballot redesign on December 18, 2009.
